Do not generalise all consulting companies...At least people working in these consulting companies sponsored GC and buying house and spending their money here. Most of the fradulent GC process was done by these croocked indian companies. They exploited the EB1C system to the maximum extend. Most of the times, they are not filing the GC and keep the employees as slaves or they exploit the EB1c fo their boot lickers.
Does anyone know such a bootlicker getting EB1c based GC? I wonder what a smart aleck that guy must been. There was a piece on NYT about India's penchant with lines and cutting lines by the uppity mongers..:D

I am not sure why people jump onto drawing conclusions so fast...look at the above post from a so called professor....he encountered a couple of a folks from some universities & concludes that those universities are just crappy....!! Many of my colleagues are from the professors' "oh-so-good" list of IITs/univs and they are no better!! (In fact, some of them suck so bad)!!
raysaikat - Do you really think any student from the above crappy-univs could not tell what is f(0.7) by looking at the graph?? Do you really think those univs (anna/osm...) are so bad? Now another question for you prof....how come are you working in a university that's giving admissions to such a bunch of crappy folks...!!?? Given this fact, can we also safely assume that the university you are teaching-in is a Crappy one, which could only attract the bottom pile from your above list of crappy-universities??

I do not particularly disagree with either points. AFAIK, there are many colleges under the Anna University (i.e., students from all colleges get the same degree); some of them might teach properly and students may learn something. But the point of illustration was that there got to be some serious problems with those degrees if a significant number of students are getting that degree without actually learning/knowing anything. I never made a statement that *every* Anna/Osmania Univ. student is bad. My statement is that I have witnessed a large number of singularly bad students with degrees from those Universities. Those students may well be at the bottom pile. The point is that even a bottom level student who get an engineering degree must know better than those students: otherwise they should not be given the degrees. There are not-so-good people in IITs (B.Tech) as well; I know a few personally. But even they are way better than the students I have encountered. Let me know if you have met some B.Tech (and not M.Tech) from IIT who cannot write a 'hello world' in C; I am very curious.
I also do not disagree with your second comment. But that clearly illustrates the point that Wadhwa stated; there is a severe shortage of jobs that *require* a Ph.D. It is plain impossible to get a faculty position in a reasonable school in CS/EE, in particular, in computer networking. There are just no jobs. Note that my track record is quite good: Ph.D. from a good school (although not in the top ten) with a good publication list (a reasonable number of papers; all in good journals/conferences like Transaction on Networking; JSAC; INFOCOM, etc.; most of them cited many times) and a post-doc from an Ivy league school. At present, other than Biomedical Engineering and related fields, faculty positions are very scarce. And hopefully you understand that you cannot "change fields" like a computer programmer since in academia you need to have a research record of 4-5 years in the new field before you can change to it. I wanted to be in academia and struck this trade-off of accepting a position in a not-so-good school.

As explained in the first post of this thread the current plan: is to write to ombudsman, service center etc and explain why this I485 denial is wrong. The letter format and addresses are provided in the same post. I request members to email ombudsman the letter - since their office got some attention on this issue its best time to send more. All you have to do is paste the letter and add your personal info and send email - take a few more minutes to print it and send hard-copy as well, just in case if they ignore emails.

I think, we should try to make a law that says to give the citizenship after 5 years from the day when I-1485 was filed (and not when it was approved). This will benefit majority of us who have waited forever after filing I-1485 and does not deserve to spend another 5 years if they wish to take Citizenship.

Champak, I'm in the same boat as yours. Called the Atlanta number and left a message with my case number. My attorney sent an email this week. I have also asked my employer to do the same. Maybe I'll take your advice and send them an email too.

Based on this article, it looks like even those 140's and 485's filed after the cut-off date will be fine as long as the GC is approved before Oct 1, 2008, so folks will have some breathing time and flexibility to plan their next move, if the bill passes in the current form.

so atleast we can say that there is a different opinion exists among attorney's too, than one of that RK's.
As mentioned in some of the above posts,
1. PPL mentioned successful renewal of EAD while MTR was filed.
2. PPL reported been able to continue working while 485 was in appeal due to invocation of 140 by previous employer after 180 days of 485.
So, I am sure there is something that is mis-guiding us here. As suggested above, Do you think if sending an email to CIS ombudsman as an individual would help? or can we do it under IV's banner if that is more effective? Suggestions?

When the dates move ahead, to say 2006, the 485s that get approved the most are for people whose PDs are in 2006. The 2004-2005 folks just have to keep starring!!! Then all of a sudden dates fall back to 2003...now only god knows who is yet to be approved in EB2-India before April 2003.
So what it seems like is when the dates move ahead drastically all the people who most recently applied will get approved and for the people who are stuck in backlog will see approvals only if the dates stick around their dates for atleast over a year....until then USCIS doesn't even realize that oh these people are still in queue and we need to approve them!!!
Such a BS to deal with all because of USCIS' GRACE!!!!

By the way, since when 100's of students mean a couple of folks? So far I have taught about 100 such students. And I and my colleagues have been observing problems with such students for over last 5 years or more (about 1000 students). These are not anomalies, rather statistically significant observations.
And, by the way, (almost) all these students join Indian consulting companies after graduation, which means (at least those) consulting companies care nothing about the quality of the employees. Banning H1-B access to such consulting companies will be of desirable, indeed.

AP isn't appoved yet. I have to wait for the approval in order to use that upon reentry.
And yes someone can surely mail me the document. In that case I just have to hope the AP dosen't have any misprints or something.
